Artists must be paid. Paid more than they were ever paid in the pre-digital era.

But one observation. The job of making art, of being inspired by others, of innovating new paradigms, of learning needs to be free. This is Lessig's Creative Commons. The commons needs to be protected as a place where new ideas can graze freely.

We have to be careful that DRM and other mechanisms for protecting digital traffic do not stymie great innovation.
