First Look at Dijjer Technorati icon

March 8, 2005 | Filed under:

I have just had my first look at Dijjer and, apart from the fact I can't get it to work - or it is extremely slow, a couple of things struck me.

First, it says on the website that it does not need 'seperate application' to run. It then asks you to download and install a seperate progragram when you try to download something.

Second, it seems to following Altnet's thinking around their Altnet Resource Network and I wonder how they will manage selling that to the users.  Altnet announced a couple of years ago that they would release a product that allowed users to lease out some of their bandwidth - effectively caching files on the p2p network so that other users can download faster. In return these users woudl be 'paid' with something.

Dijjer understates its 'pre-emptive caching' feature that means that users who do not actively participate in the network still download and share files. Users will hate that and Dijjer the legal ground upon which it stands seems fragile also.
